A Wedding Guest Book, But Make It a Journal

Chelsea Anne De Leon

One of the things I love most about bazaars is that you never really know who you're going to meet. Some people stop by to browse, some stay to chat, and every now and then, someone walks into the booth and unknowingly becomes part of a future Telapapel story.

That was exactly how I met Lynzl.

Back in May 2026, Telapapel was part of PlannerCon: Analog Days. Somewhere between all the journals, paper goods, and conversations, Lynzl and her then-fiancé stopped by our booth.

Among the journals on display was the Sumbungera Journal.

If you've been following Telapapel for a while, you probably know it. Bright, cheerful, unapologetically sumbungera. The kind of journal that can't help but smile at you. And as it turns out, Lynzl smiled right back. A few conversations later, she reached out with an idea:

A wedding guest journal inspired by the Sumbungera?

Not just a guest book. A journal.

A place where wedding guests could leave Instax photos, handwritten notes, marriage advice, inside jokes, and little memories from one of the biggest days of their lives.

Naturally, I said yes. The only tiny detail?

Their wedding was scheduled for July 10, 2026. Which meant we had a relatively short runway between inquiry, design, production, and delivery. No pressure. 😅

As we began planning the journal, Lynzl had three requests that would ultimately become my favorite parts of the project.

The first was a custom endpaper design.

She wanted something that felt unmistakably theirs. Summer-inspired, filled with warmth and color, featuring a cartoon illustration of the couple alongside their wedding monogram. And I always love when couples choose to personalize the parts of a journal that people don't immediately notice.

The cover gets all the attention. But opening a journal and discovering a custom endpaper? That's where the magic hides.

Her second request was a sunflower embroidered onto the spine.

This felt like a beautiful nod to the Sumbungera Journal that first inspired the project. It's funny how inspiration travels. A journal sitting quietly on a display shelf eventually found its way into someone else's wedding story.

And finally, my favorite detail. The cover would feature beaded personalization.

Not with their formal names, not with "Mr. & Mrs.", not even with their initials, but with the names they actually call each other:

Lynzl & Survy

I don't know why, but that detail made me smile every time I worked on the journal. It felt real. Personal. Like the kind of thing that belongs in a relationship rather than on a wedding invitation. The kind of detail that only means something to the people who share it.

As production moved forward, the journal slowly transformed from an idea into something tangible. Fabric, thread, paper, embroidery, and beads. Tiny pieces coming together to create a place for future memories. By the time the journal left the studio, it was no longer just a handmade book.

It was a container waiting to be filled.

Filled with Instax snapshots, messages from family and friends, laughter, advice, stories, and perhaps a few wonderfully blurry photos from guests who were having a little too much fun at the reception.

The thing about wedding journals is that they're never truly finished when I complete them. In many ways, that's when their story finally begins.

To Lynzl and Survy, thank you for allowing Telapapel to become a small part of your celebration.

And to the journal itself, I hope your pages are now filled with photographs, memories, and enough love to last a lifetime.

After all, the best journals aren't the ones that stay empty.

They're the ones that become impossible to close because they're overflowing with stories.
